Car Sounds Like Lawnmower. It typically happens when you are starting the vehicle or during acceleration. At idle i would describe the sound as a rapid tick/knock and revved up it did sound a bit like a lawn mower.

But i think i've heard a handful at least, making that noise. Also, and though i may sound like a dick, i think it was foolish to buy and install parts and then wonder if the way you have it is ok. If your car sounds like a lawnmower, there is most definitely a leak.

Also, and though i may sound like a dick, i think it was foolish to buy and install parts and then wonder if the way you have it is ok. I don't notice any power or mpg loss, don't notice any leaks or engine issues (no smoke, sputtering, hesitation, etc.), the car seems to be running normally (save for a slight increase in road noise but i thought that would be normal after tires are a month old).

If it really does sound like a lawn mower, then you should get it checked. I would stay away from adding anything to the oil, with the exception of additive packages which add to the additives that are already in the oil when you buy it.

I have been laying in bed reading and i can hear cars drive by, once in a while, making the exact same noise. However, this sound may be interrupted by the car vibration and the screeching of brakes; If you have a car that sounds like a lawn mower, then it is probably suffering from a torn or stretched belt.
