Manually push it all the way open then hold the lift gate button until it closes. I had to shut door manually.

Open it just enough so that it rests on the latch itself. Remember, if your battery is dead, this method does not work.

I had to lift it the rest of the way. Press and hold the button until it manually releases. It just my backhatch won’t open it’s a 2019 subaru outback.
